pH
pH (Potential of Hydrogen)
Definition (cosmetic use): pH expresses how acidic or basic a water-based formula is on a scale of 0–14. In skincare, pH influences how comfortable a product feels and how effectively certain ingredients (like AHAs and PHAs) perform. Skin’s surface tends to sit slightly acidic; formulas that respect this range usually layer more predictably and feel more balanced.
Why pH matters (cosmetic context)
- Performance: Exfoliating acids are pH-dependent; a calibrated pH controls feel and effect.
- Barrier comfort: Very high- or very low-pH products can feel disruptive; balanced pH helps preserve a composed surface.
- Layering logic: Water-phase actives at their ideal pH first, then seal with light lipids for elegant wear.
- Stability: Some botanicals and peptides prefer a narrow pH window for predictable behavior over time.
Practical routine design
- Exfoliant → serums → finish: Use acids (AHA/PHA) on clean skin; give them a moment; follow with treatment serums; finish with a light lipid layer.
- Don’t stack extremes: Avoid combining multiple strong low-pH steps in one session; alternate days to maintain comfort.
- Watch the rinse: Over-alkaline cleansers can leave skin tight; prefer lipid-friendly cleansing that respects surface pH.
Used in OUMERE
- No. 9 Daily Chemical Exfoliant — pH-calibrated blend of AHAs (lactic, mandelic) + PHAs for controlled renewal.
- UV-R & UV-R Concentrate — water-phase botanical support formulated for clean layering after exfoliation.
- Serum Bioluminelle — dual-phase finishing serum that preserves comfort without heavy occlusion.
OUMERE routines are composed to keep pH, texture, and finish in a predictable, cosmetically elegant range.
